Amy Williams (MCoun), a UK native, has been providing therapeutic services to young people and adults in Hong Kong since 2015 and has been living here for over ten years.

​

Amy provides professional, empathic and person-centered counselling for teens, adults & families.

Amy is passionate about creating a space that allows her clients to navigate their thoughts, feelings and vulnerabilities at a pace they are comfortable with. 

Amy treats individuals dealing with a wide range of issues from: depression, anxiety, stress and trauma to social, self-esteem and emotional regulation difficulties. 

 

In addition to private practice Amy's previous experience has included being a school counsellor for the following international schools: KGV, ICHK, KIS and YMCACC.

Amy was involved in facilitating individual and group therapy sessions with a wide range of young people ranging from 8YO+. It was also her responsibility to manage all elements of pastoral care including teacher training, intern supervision and the development of support plans. Amy continues to liaise with schools on behalf of her clients.

Prior to counselling, Amy worked in the performing arts industry. Amy uses the extensive knowledge she has gained from working within the creative arts, to support teens in expressing themselves and exploring their identity and self-worth.

Amy currently works with young people, adults and families in both the Central & Mui Wo practice.

Amy is an individual member of the Hong Kong Professional Counselling Association (HKPCA) and the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

MANDY

Mandy Smith (MCouns), is originally from Canada but has considered Hong Kong her home since 2015. 

 

Mandy has always been committed to the growth and well-being of children and youth. Using a person-centred approach, she brings an empathic and non-judgmental stance to her counselling sessions. Mandy is passionate about guiding young people to become more self-confident and self-aware. She uses a CBT design to help her clients gain the tools needed to achieve this and ultimately become more self-reliant, content and fulfilled. 

 

Mandy mainly provides counselling for children and youth dealing with a variety of issues, including, but not limited to, stress, anxiety, depression and family issues.

 

Prior to her work in Counselling, Mandy worked as an Elementary School Teacher in both Canada and Hong Kong. With over 10 years in the classroom, she has extensive experience working closely with young people. While working at the inclusive Harbour International School, she was able to gain much valuable knowledge and training in dealing with emotional regulation, anxiety, social skills, interpersonal relationships and bullying issues amongst her students. Additionally, she believes strongly in the power of developing a genuine rapport with the clients she’s worked with by listening with compassion and ensuring a client feels valued and heard.  

 

Mandy’s work experience has greatly shaped her as a professional and she continues to apply her compassionate perspective to her counselling approach.

DOLLY

Dolly Nawalkha (MCouns), was born in India but raised in Hong Kong, which she has called home for the last 23 years.

 

Dolly is a certified counsellor with extensive experience, working with a diverse client base. Her work with individuals, both teens and adults, includes those suffering from depression, stress, anxiety, bereavement, low self-esteem and relationship difficulties.

As a Gottman certified therapist Dolly also specialises in couples work and is passionate about supporting couples to heal their trauma in order to manage conflict and communication with ease.

Dolly strives to be adaptive for her clients and incorporates an eclectic theoretical orientation including CBT, Person-Centered, Solution-Focused and Mindfulness interventions. She is a certified ACT therapist for Adolescents and Adults and is a Gottman's Certified couples therapist.

​

Prior to her work at Embrace Counselling, Dolly also has experience working for charities supporting domestic helpers as well as with young people in an international school setting. Dolly understands well the challenges and difficulties her clients face.

 

Dolly is flexible, culturally competent and socially diverse. Her strongest quality is active-listening and genuine curiosity to understand one's emotions behind their narrative. She believes in creating a safe and non-judgmental space for her clients to work through life's difficulties. Her interventions are tailored to meet each client's needs and personality, with the aim to unveil a client's strengths, talents, hopes, abilities, experiences and resources in order to empower and enhance their confidence and well-being.

Sophia Ng (MCoun), a Hong Kong native is a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist specializing in youth mental health counselling. 

Sophia is passionate about ending the stigma towards mental health by using a compassionate approach to therapy, one where the client is always, valued, seen & heard. Sophia has experience in providing comprehensive mental health screenings, assessments & diagnosis for those who wish to be evaluated for possible mental health issues. She has had extensive training & experience treating depression, anxiety, OCD, attention deficit hyperactive disorder & more. In addition, she has worked with teens who also experience dysfunctional family dynamics, difficulties in acculturation, low self-esteem, bullying and suicidal ideation. 

 

Prior to her work at Embrace Counselling, Sophia worked as a bilingual program clinician for the Community Youth Center of San Francisco for 4 years, providing 1:1 mental health counseling, family counseling and probation youth counseling for youth ages 5-18 across the entire San Francisco Unified School District.  She uses her extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help youth generate a sense of self, improve the quality of their thinking patterns, better understand their emotions and express them in healthier ways. She also incorporates Dialectical Behavior therapy and mindfulness in her practice to help teens better cope with stress & distress tolerance in their day to day lives.  

 

Sophia is an active member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and licensed by the Board of Behavioral Sciences in California.
